This term our focus will be on number and consolidating and developing our knowledge, skills and understanding. We will begin the term studying number and place value, followed by addition and subtraction. We will be using columnar method and improving their ability in using this written method.
We will then focus on multiplication and the relationship with division. We will be looking at the effect on the value of numbers when we multiply by 10. .
Following this we will then move on to fractions ensuring that they can recognise fractions of a whole and equivalent fractions.
HELPING AT HOME
How you can help your child at home to improve their maths:
* Encourage, help and support them to learn the multiplication and corresponding division facts for the 2, 5, 10, 3 and 4 times tables.
* Ask them to write numbers, in both figures and words, up to 1000.
* Ask them to multiply three single digit numbers together eg. 3 x 2 x 3. They may need to use a multiplication square to help them. One can be accessed opposite.
* Encourage them to use a range of different strategies to add and subtract two digit numbers eg. 45 + 39 or 73 - 14. The online random number generator linked opposite could be fun to use.
