  • Year 3 History learning about Iron Age Staters

    Fri 17 May 2024

This afternoon, Year 3 have researched Iron Age Staters.  These were like coins and were used by different tribes in the 2nc Century BC.   They enjoyed reading to identify key vocabulary and then wrote their own paragraphs to explain their undertanding.  To work out what a stater was, we started with a game of 20 questions and they were able to correctly identify.  Well done!

  • Year 3 Artistic inspiration

    Fri 17 May 2024

To celebrate the Mary in the month of May, Year 3 have been drawing their own Georgia O'Keeffe inspired flowers.  They looked at examples of the artist's work and shared what they liked and found interesting about her pieces.  Thinking about bold colours and simple lines, they have worked with pastels or water colours to create their own masterpieces!

Thank you to all the parent helpers that volunteered to make this trip possible for the children.

After lunch, the children were excited to explore the fun rides on offer. The children were beautifully behaved throughout and were a credit to our school. A massive thank you to the parents who were able to help out on the day!

  • Year 3 learn to play golf.

    Fri 10 May 2024

This week, Year 3 have been learning a new sport.  We have been trying our hand at golf!

We practised long shots with the driver and shorter, more accurate, lighter shots with the putter.  The children also had lots of fun creating their own 'crazy holes' and experimenting with different forces and speeds.

We look forward to more lessons in the sunshine where will create our own golf courses.

  • Swimming Gala victory for St Mary’s

    Fri 10 May 2024

Swimming Gala victory for St Mary’s

It was Wednesday 8th May and it finally felt like spring had sprung so perhaps not the perfect afternoon to be spending by a hot poolside, or would it be?

22 children from years 3 to 6 and their travelling band of teachers and vocal parents, travelled over to Goldsmiths full of enthusiasm and excitement.

The races started with the width races, short sprints of races in crawl, backstroke and breaststroke. There were magnificent

performances across a distance that the children are used to,

including 13 first place finishes and a whole host of 2nds and 3rds as well.

Excitement about overall placing was starting to bubble amongst the team as the gala moved into the length distance events and

relays. We placed consistently in the top 2 or 3, including three

victories over the longer distance. All things combined; this left us with a combined score of 97 points –

enough to be declared overall winners by just 4 points.

A fantastic achievement by the whole team.

A big thank you to the parents and Mrs. Brand for their support on the day and a huge thank you to Mrs. Tanner and Mrs. Rickwood for their fantastic swimming teaching and preparing the children for the gala. An extra thank you to Mrs. Rickwood and Mr. Smith for the ice creams.
