Chess Club

This week, Miss Cook launched chess club for Years 4 - 6.  Chess is a great game to learn because it helps build mathematical skills and problem-solving ability in a fun way. When you play chess, you are constantly counting moves, recognising patterns, and thinking about position and space on the board, which links closely to maths. You also have to plan ahead, predict what might happen next, and choose the best move from several options. This develops logical thinking and reasoning. Chess teaches you to break big problems into smaller steps, learn from mistakes, and stay focused—all important skills used in maths and real-life problem solving.

Currently spaces are limited, but as the children become more confident with the rules, we hope to open up this opportunity to the younger children too.
