Year 4

Year 4 is the final year of lower key stage 2.  In year 4, we continue to focus on developing the children as independent learners.  We want our children to be enthusiastic about their learning and to independently recognise how they can improve their work through evaluation and editing.

Additionally, in Year 4 the children will be tested on their knowledge and speed of recall in their times tables.  As such, it is important that the children are confident in all their tables up to the 12 times.  Your support with their practise will be imperative for the children to achieve success in this test.

The National Curriculum guidance contains the spelling rules that we teach across year 3 and 4. It provides details of the rules and some example words. The Year 3 and 4 statutory words are the words that they need to learn that do not fit into any spelling rules that we teach. We test children on a mixture of the rules and statutory words. The best way to help your child at home is to look at spelling rules and patterns.

Spelling at home

These are lists of words that should have been learnt in previous years. Some children will benefit from revisiting these spellings.
