Year 3 - Head Circumferences
This week, some children in year three have been thinking like scientists. They discussed a question they wanted to investigate, thought about variables they needed to keep the same and planned a fair test. “We can’t use Miss Cook’s head because she’s older, it’s not the same as us because she’s grown up!” The children made predictions “I think the boys will have bigger heads because men are usually taller!”, “I think that boys and girls will have the same sized heads because we’re all just children!”. Then they enjoyed using the tape measures to find their head circumference and Miss Cook then helped them to work out an average. We discovered that boys heads were a little bit bigger than girls heads because the average boy head circumference in year 3 was 55cm, compared to the average girls circumference was 54cm. I wonder who has longer legs, boys or girls…?
