Year 6 WW2 Day

Here are a selection of photos from our WW2 day last term. A little snippet of what we did:

  • Year 6 started their school day with the windows blacked out, and were shown a video of what to do if you hear an air raid siren

  • We then spent our morning talking about upcycling which was very popular during WW2. We used left over felt pieces and accessories to make bookmarks for our loved ones or for ourselves.

  • Suddenly the siren sounded! We all had to get under our tables and stay out of sight until the all clear was given.

  • Once we recovered, it was announced that we were being evacuated to countryside towns to save us all from the bombings in our area.

  • After break we boarded the train and were given our name tags for our luggage. Whilst on the train we met other children and played popular games from 1940s whilst we tucked into some train snacks!

  • Once we arrived at our destination, we were all given an envelope containing information about the families we were going to be housing with.

  • After lunch we used this information to write home to our families about our experiences with our guardians so far.

  • By the end of the day, the war was over so we played musical statues and had a celebration party!
