  • History Learning about the Iron Age in Year 3

    Fri 24 May 2024

Year 3 have had a great week exploring The Witham Shield which was found in the river in Lincoln.  They thought carefully about why it was found in the water, the most popular idea being it was put in the river as an offering for the gods, to help offer protection. The children then designed their own shields which they used water colour to decorate, then they had a creative afternoon making larger versions.  Thank you for all the donations of cardboard!

  • Farewell Mrs Shields

    Fri 24 May 2024

It is with great sadness that that we say farewell to Mrs Shields, who is leaving St Mary’s today. Mrs Shields has worked at St Mary’s as our school secretary in the office for the last six years, but has also dedicated herself over many years to other roles within our school and the community, such as clerk to the governing body, Friends of St Mary's, as well as being a parent of the school.

As such Mrs Shields will be very much missed at St Mary’s and we are all very grateful for her hard work and enthusiasm for everything she has done for our school and the community over the last sixteen years. I am sure, therefore, that you will join me in wishing Mrs Shields well as she leaves to spend more time with her family over the coming months, as well as taking on new adventures and endeavours in the future.

Thank you, Mrs Shields, for all your hard work and support for our children, as well as your dedicated service to our school and community. We will miss you!

  • Year 3 History learning about Iron Age Staters

    Fri 17 May 2024

This afternoon, Year 3 have researched Iron Age Staters.  These were like coins and were used by different tribes in the 2nc Century BC.   They enjoyed reading to identify key vocabulary and then wrote their own paragraphs to explain their undertanding.  To work out what a stater was, we started with a game of 20 questions and they were able to correctly identify.  Well done!

  • Year 3 Artistic inspiration

    Fri 17 May 2024

To celebrate the Mary in the month of May, Year 3 have been drawing their own Georgia O'Keeffe inspired flowers.  They looked at examples of the artist's work and shared what they liked and found interesting about her pieces.  Thinking about bold colours and simple lines, they have worked with pastels or water colours to create their own masterpieces!

  • Photographs from Drusillas with Year 1

    Fri 17 May 2024

Both year 1 and year 2 went to Drusillas this Tuesday.   They shared a double decker coach to and from school to make the trip more economical and affordable for both year groups.   Year 1 had their own education session on Minibeasts to tie in with the their curriculum learning.

Thank you to all the parent helpers that volunteered to make this trip possible for the children.

  • Year 2's Trip to Drusillas on Tuesday

    Fri 17 May 2024

On Tuesday 14th, Year 2 went to Drusillas. The children saw lots of different animals and discussed their habitats. Lots of the children were excited to see a baboon!

We also then had the opportunity to meet a snake and a chinchilla up close!

After lunch, the children were excited to explore the fun rides on offer. The children were beautifully behaved throughout and were a credit to our school. A massive thank you to the parents who were able to help out on the day!

  • Year 3 learn to play golf.

    Fri 10 May 2024

This week, Year 3 have been learning a new sport.  We have been trying our hand at golf!

We practised long shots with the driver and shorter, more accurate, lighter shots with the putter.  The children also had lots of fun creating their own 'crazy holes' and experimenting with different forces and speeds.

We look forward to more lessons in the sunshine where will create our own golf courses.
