Year 3 Stone Age Day
Thu 24 Oct 2024Year 3 had an exciting extravaganza yesterday when they travelled back in time for Stone Age Day. They started their adventure solving crossword clues to reflect on their knowledge from their topic this term. Then they explored Stone Age clothing and went gathering fruits. We made Stone Age biscuits using honey, seeds and dried fruit and then we made a fruit stew to dunk them in, this involved good listening skills and cooperation to follow instructions and learning to use peelers and knives safely. We also made clay pots and enjoyed listening to how Charolotte found her flint Stone Age knife at Birling Gap. Curriculum days like these are lots of fun and full of enriching experiences - thank you to the plethora of parents who joined and supported us and helped the day run smoothly.

Year 3 Computing
Thu 17 Oct 2024Over the last few weeks the children have been using stop animation to create their own moving animations. This involves using the iPads on stands and taking different images. They have practiced using pictures, objects and then their own drawings. They really loved exploring the play back feature in different speeds! Great collaboration and discussions!

Year 3 - Head Circumferences
Thu 17 Oct 2024This week, some children in year three have been thinking like scientists. They discussed a question they wanted to investigate, thought about variables they needed to keep the same and planned a fair test. “We can’t use Miss Cook’s head because she’s older, it’s not the same as us because she’s grown up!” The children made predictions “I think the boys will have bigger heads because men are usually taller!”, “I think that boys and girls will have the same sized heads because we’re all just children!”. Then they enjoyed using the tape measures to find their head circumference and Miss Cook then helped them to work out an average. We discovered that boys heads were a little bit bigger than girls heads because the average boy head circumference in year 3 was 55cm, compared to the average girls circumference was 54cm. I wonder who has longer legs, boys or girls…?

Year 3 Stone Age Camps
Fri 11 Oct 2024This week, in History, the children have been learning about Stone Age dwellings. We talked about how the camps would move depending upon the season and the food available. We then worked with a partner to design our own winter camp and annotate it with our ideas.

Year 6 - The Rosary
Fri 11 Oct 2024Year 6 have been learning about praying the Rosary. We made our own Rosary beads to help us understand the different parts and prayers that are said when praying the Rosary. We discussed the different mysteries that we can reflect on when praying. We are looking forward to using our Rosary beads in class more in our future lessons.

Year 3 Maths this week
Fri 04 Oct 2024Year 3 have been looking at the composition of 100. They have been counting forwards and backwards in 10s, 20s, 25s and 50s - we are getting quicker and more confident at this but find it a little tricky to jump backwards! In our books we have been using part whole models and bar models to help us write calculations and we had a great time outside drawing our own number lines and jumping along them with our friends.

Class Liturgies
Fri 04 Oct 2024The RE Council have been leading class liturgies across the school this week following training from Mrs Lawlor our RE leader. Staff have commented on how confident the children were and also how well chosen their choices of scripture were. Well done RE Council.

Harvest Liturgy
Fri 04 Oct 2024This week we were also delighted to hold our Harvest Liturgy on Friday. The children in the RE Council led this
assembly beautifully and explained the meaning and importance of Harvest in detail.
Thank you to you all for your Harvest donations. We will be continuing to receive any further donations until Wednesday 9th October and then we will be distributing them to Crowborough Foodbank.
