Year 3 have been investigating Shape in their Maths lessons
Fri 14 Jun 2024This week in maths we have been learning lots about shapes. We have built upon the terms horizontal, vertical and diagonal to learn about perpendicular and parallel lines, and thought about different sized angles, identifying acute, obtuse and right angles in the classroom and in shapes. These are tricky concepts to remember and Mrs Cook was very proud of the children's efforts.

Gardening Club
Fri 07 Jun 2024This mild but rather wet weather has been perfect for our veggie plot.
Our budding gardeners have a vast array of vegetables and herbs growing.
This year we planted our broad beans seeds we had stored and dried from last years crop and took runners from last years strawberry plants it has been so exciting to experience the cycle of self sufficiency.
The broad beans are now huge and strawberries are ripening nicely.
We can't wait to see what pops up next !

We then learnt all about the correct javelin technique with a throwing line and a safety line, before we started learning to measure our distances correctly. We finished with some sprint heats - thinking about a straight head and pumping arms for some extra power! Thank you Mr. Pappa for another fun filled, active hour!

History Learning about the Iron Age in Year 3
Fri 24 May 2024Year 3 have had a great week exploring The Witham Shield which was found in the river in Lincoln. They thought carefully about why it was found in the water, the most popular idea being it was put in the river as an offering for the gods, to help offer protection. The children then designed their own shields which they used water colour to decorate, then they had a creative afternoon making larger versions. Thank you for all the donations of cardboard!

Farewell Mrs Shields
Fri 24 May 2024It is with great sadness that that we say farewell to Mrs Shields, who is leaving St Mary’s today. Mrs Shields has worked at St Mary’s as our school secretary in the office for the last six years, but has also dedicated herself over many years to other roles within our school and the community, such as clerk to the governing body, Friends of St Mary's, as well as being a parent of the school.
As such Mrs Shields will be very much missed at St Mary’s and we are all very grateful for her hard work and enthusiasm for everything she has done for our school and the community over the last sixteen years. I am sure, therefore, that you will join me in wishing Mrs Shields well as she leaves to spend more time with her family over the coming months, as well as taking on new adventures and endeavours in the future.
Thank you, Mrs Shields, for all your hard work and support for our children, as well as your dedicated service to our school and community. We will miss you!

Year 3 History learning about Iron Age Staters
Fri 17 May 2024This afternoon, Year 3 have researched Iron Age Staters. These were like coins and were used by different tribes in the 2nc Century BC. They enjoyed reading to identify key vocabulary and then wrote their own paragraphs to explain their undertanding. To work out what a stater was, we started with a game of 20 questions and they were able to correctly identify. Well done!
