Magnetic Games
Fri 06 Feb 2026This term, we have been learning all about magnets and forces. This afternoon, the children discovered that the force of a magnet can travel through paper and card, which helped them to create their own really cool games. There were mazes to navigate, points to collect and objects to catch, and the children came up with some very inventive ideas. They worked cooperatively, discussing their plans and sharing ideas throughout the activity. Afterwards, they presented their games to the class, explaining their intentions, the rules and what they enjoyed about the project - a great collaborative DT and Science afternoon!

Chess Club
Mon 02 Feb 2026This week, Miss Cook launched chess club for Years 4 - 6. Chess is a great game to learn because it helps build mathematical skills and problem-solving ability in a fun way. When you play chess, you are constantly counting moves, recognising patterns, and thinking about position and space on the board, which links closely to maths. You also have to plan ahead, predict what might happen next, and choose the best move from several options. This develops logical thinking and reasoning. Chess teaches you to break big problems into smaller steps, learn from mistakes, and stay focused—all important skills used in maths and real-life problem solving.
Currently spaces are limited, but as the children become more confident with the rules, we hope to open up this opportunity to the younger children too.

Through clear and confident voices, thoughtful readings and energetic singing, the children showed how kindness, patience, and gentle courage can shape everyday life. Their smiles and teamwork lit up the hall, making the message feel real and reachable for everyone watching. Each child spoke with pride, proving that small voices can share big wisdom. It was a beautiful celebration of character, faith, and the power of young people teaching us.

They buried treasure in the school and followed carefully drawn maps to find it again. Everyone enjoyed making their own telescopes and scanning the horizon for distant islands.
