  • Blue Class Number Day activities

    Fri 02 Feb 2024

    Blue class made paper aeroplanes today to explore symmetry and shapes.  They had lots of fun playing the 'Guess a Minute' game. 

     

    They then had beanbag races and used their maths skills to compare times and speeds.

     

    The children enjoyed playing Times Table Rockstars in class, dressed as rockstars!

  • Green class Rock Stars enjoying number day

    Green class had lots of fun on number day and completed different number challenges.

     

    Challenges included

    How far can you double numbers? 

    Record holders were Hugh and Dylan.

     

    Which group can solve the problems quickest?

    Finley H, Poppy and Olivia were super quick.

    Reception class had fun with numbers day and there were lots of fantastic little robots learning all about numbers.

  • Visit from Sean Williams about Maths teaching at St Mary's

    Yesterday, Miss Cook had a wonderful morning talking to Sean Williams (our School Improvement Advisor) all about Maths at St. Marys.  We enjoyed a fabulous learning walk around classes to see all the exciting things the children were learning about.  It was fabulous to listen to the children using precise mathematical vocabulary and talking confidently and accurately about their understanding.  Here are a few photos from our morning.

  • Candlemass and Governors Day

    On Thursday, we welcomed our Governors into school and our RE council led our Candlemass Liturgy. 

     

    They explained how the candles are blessed to be used throughout the year in church.  They led bidding prayers, hymns and prayers.

  • Science work in Year 3 - exploring magnetic forces

    Year 3 have been investigating magnetic force by investigating which is the strongest magnet. 

     

    The had to use a ruler to measure carefully and test different types of magnets to see which one could attract a paper clip from furthest away.  They made some great predictions and enjoyed working together for their experiment.

  • SubPod Compost and Worm Farm

    We are pleased to have taken delivery of the fabulous New Subpod Compost Bin and Worm Farm and raised bed donated by the SubPod company following our campaign to win one last year.

     

    Our new Eco-Club is setting up a composing project across the school .  Mr Puddick has put the Compost and Worm Farm together for us and it is in the process of being installed. 

     

    The children will be learning how the worm farm works and we will be teaching them the benefits of composting food waste in this way. 

    Thank you all our parent's support in getting the composter donated and we will keep you updated with all the lovely  plants that we have been able to grow when we reuse the rich compost.

     

  • Celebration Assembly today

    Children received their learning value awards today in our Friday celebration assembly.

     

    Lottie and Poppy also showed the medals they won in a cheerleading competition.  Poppy won second place for her first ever tumbling solo and they both won medals for first place in the stunt competition.  

     

    Odhran has won a trophy for great participation in Thai Boxing.

     

     

  • Year 3 reading Leon and the Place Between

    In Year 3 we have been reading a wonderful story called Leon and the Place Between. 

     

    We used ideas from both the text and the illustrations to create our own list poems.  We also practised some typing, exploring different fonts, colours and sizes because the book is produced in interesting fonts too!
