Visit to the post office
Fri 28 Feb 2025On Wednesday 26th February, the children in Year Two visited the Post Office. The children have been learning about writing informal letters and they were very excited to post their letter which they wrote to one of their classmates. They had an extra treat as we also had a guided tour of Crowborough's Police Station as well!

Stone Soup
Fri 28 Feb 2025At the end of last term, Year 3 made their own delicious 'stone soup'.
In RE we are learning about the Eucharist. We read the story about a beggar who no one wants to help. He explains that he wants to have one last meal before he leaves, so he starts to make a soup. Everyone in the village ends up contributing an ingredient and before they know it they have created a delicious soup together and have a great time sharing in their joint creation.
Thank you to everyone who contributed an ingredient to our soup - we had a fabulous day peeling, chopping, slicing and dicing. We then put everything in the pot and when it was cooked and soft we put it in the blender to mix it all up!

Forest School - a new shelter
Mon 24 Feb 2025A huge thankyou to Tom Woodgate and the team from T C Woodgate Tree Surgery for supporting St Marys Primary by setting up a secure shelter line for us in our forest school area. This will mean we will now be able to raise a waterproof shelter quickly and easily whenever we need to, keeping us cosy and dry on even the wettest of Forest School days!

Bag Making
Thu 13 Feb 2025Year 3 had a fabulous day on Thursday creating their own bags. Throughout the term they had analysed real products, designed their own bag, made a prototype to practise and then created their own using fabric. They had a great day cutting and sewing, using different stitches, adding pockets, zips, buttons and handles. Well done Year 3 for being so creative and working well to help each other out!

Stone Henge Bronze Age Burial
Mon 10 Feb 2025Year 3 had a fascinating time on Monday afternoon with a visit from two British Heritage volunteers. They talked to the class about life in the Neolithic times; we explored how and why Stonehenge was built and discussed how large crowds would gather to celebrate the summer and winter solstaces. The children got to handle replica artefacts and share their thoughts and ideas. We even reenacted a Bronze Age burial, looking closely at the items people would have chosen to bury with their chief. Many thanks to Gill and David Edwards for coming in to talk to the children, it was lovely to have such passionate experts in class.

Monuments
Thu 30 Jan 2025Year 3 have been learning about monuments as part of their history topic. We walked up to the green to explore the War Memorial, the Crowborough ring of rocks and the tree planted to commemorate the wedding of the Duke and Dutchess of Sussex. We have been talking lots about monuments around the world and how they help to remember special events or people. We will continue our learning by exploring the standing stones of Merrivale and Stonehenge.

Forest School - Year 6
Tue 28 Jan 2025Year 6 enjoyed getting back to Forest School this week. They tried out our new mud pit (we are very grateful to Mr Sculley for donating his time to creating this area for us!), remembered our woodworking skills and enjoyed some games. Lots still to do in our next four Forest School sessions though!

Parish Mass - Launch of the Jubilee Year

Year 3 Cake sale
Mon 20 Jan 2025Thank you very much for your support on Friday for Year 3's class cake sale. We had a lovely time designing advertising posters and decorating cakes to sell. We really appreciate your kind support in heling us raise class funds and are looking forward to spending our money on a class treat!
