  • Science Week

    Fri 14 Mar 2025

Year 3 have been continuing their work on forces but finding out which surface has the most friction.

"If it has the most friction then the car will not go far" Riley

"The table is super slippery and very very smooth so the car will go further.  There is less friction" Grace

"Grass is very bumpy and the ground is rough so this will have lots of friction" Connor M

The children started by writing their own question to investigate and writing down their predictions. Using the word 'because' they had to try to justify their ideas by providing reasoning.  We talked about variables we would have to take into account so that the test was fair.  Working in groups, the class tested different surfaces and measured the distance a toy car travelled.  They recorded their findings and used these to draw conclusions.

"The concrete was not as smooth as the table so it didn't go as far" Conor M

"The grass was the worst surface because it was bumpy.  The car only went 0cm!!!" Arthur

  • Science Week - Year 3 sugar investigation

    Fri 14 Mar 2025

Year 3 have been investigating the nutritional labels to find out which soft drink contained the most sugar.  We created some questions which we voted on to find out our favourite drink, and which we thought was the healthiest, then we predicted which one would contain the most sugar.  We developed our ideas by thinking about reasons why.

"I think the fudge brownie milkshake will contain the most sugar because I know fudge is made with lots and lots of sugar, and so is a brownie!" Holly

"I predict the smoothie or the juice will be the healthiest because it contains lots of fruit.  Fruit gives us vitamins" Charlotte

"I think Prime will have the most sugar because my mum doesn't let me drink it that often!" Casper

We recorded how many grams of sugar there was in the entire bottle or carton, then we used calculators to help us find out how much sugar there was in 200ml.  Having the same volume of liquid meant it was easier to compare different drinks. We then weighed out that amount of sugar so that we could see the difference!

We all had lots of fun using different equipment and thinking like scientists by analysing data.  We were really surprised to find out that the fruit smoothie contained the most sugar with 23g per 200ml!  We were also astonished to realise that the prime hydration had lesson than 1g of sugar in it, meaning that lots of our predictions were wrong!

  • Science Fair

    Wed 12 Mar 2025

We all had an amazing time at our Science Fair. So many of our children entered experiments for us all to try and be amazed by.

Thank you to everyone who took part in this fantastic showcase of Science at St Mary's.

  • World Prayer Day 2025

    Fri 07 Mar 2025

The children were able to celebrate World Prayer Day with the help of Mrs Ludgate who shared different ways for us all to pray as well as emphazing the importance of prayer in our lives. A big thank you to Mrs Ludgate for sharing her ideas and activities with us - it was a very special event for us all.

If you would like to add a prayer to our prayer tree or post a prayer postcard then please come into our school foyer where you will find these special prayer areas.

  • Book Week 2025 Activities

  • World Book Day

    Thu 06 Mar 2025

Year 6 and Year 3 had a great morning buddying up.  The two year groups joined in the sunshine to talk about the books and characters they like and listened to extracts from each other's books.  Afterwards, we had some fun relay races in which the children had to work together to rearrange letters to form the answers to some book related questions - this was a great opportunity to share our knowledge of books and help support each other with our spelling!

  • St David's Day

    Fri 28 Feb 2025

Today yellow team celebrated St David's day by wearing something yellow. The team's house captains led the whole school assembly and helped us understand who St David was and the good things he did for others throughout his life.

Yellow house then had a cup of squash and a biscuit to celebrate their special House day.
